WHY WE ARE EXPERTS ON ENTERPRISE SERVICES - EXAMPLES OF OUR WORK
|

|
 |
The Enterprise Practice works with a wide variety of players in the telecoms industry. The range is expanding as convergence of fixed and mobile, telecoms and IT and equipment and service brings not only two parties together, but also brings the complexity of multi-channel distribution strategies into play.
In the convergent world positioning becomes critical. We work with all parties to understand their offerings, their positioning and the ways in which these are set to appeal to the ultimate end customer. The fact that we span the range of enterprise services means that we can bring the context of the full ICT perspective of customers to the table. One man’s managed service (claiming value added possibilities) is another man’s commodity service that can be brought in to simply complete a solution. Add to this the inclusion of hosted services, coupled with high quality connectivity and the new models of computing and centralised applications emerge. We work closely with our Outsourcing@Ovum colleagues to bring the network-led and traditional IT-led outsourcing streams together.

More detailed examples
- A major European telco
Ovum runs the market model and forecasts for a major European telecoms operator. In this role, we work closely with all of the different product and service managers and the strategy department. The work spans the whole of the business market including fixed voice and data, mobile voice and data and managed services down to the desktop.
- A mobile operator
Ovum developed the mobile voice market model on an enhanced segmentation and vertical basis for this European mobile operator. We took the existing mobile voice model and enhanced it to look at some specific product offerings for this operator including the possibilities for FMS. The results helped the service provider position the roll out of new enhanced services.
- Equipment provider
Ovum worked closely with this telecoms equipment and service provider to evaluate the potential for hosted contact centres. The work included an analysis of competitive offerings from other players as well as demand side analysis of the hosted offerings.
- End user group
In addition to our on-going benchmarking and survey work with MNCs and SMEs, working with the EVUA we consulted on the impact of the BT acquisition of Infonet. Discussions with different end users included the likely impact for Infonet customers, BT customers and the prospects of one less major service provider in the international market for customers of other players.
- Network integrator
Ovum worked with this network integrator, which started life as a PBX distributor, to evaluate the possible future role of a narrow-based integrator in the emerging convergent communications marketplace. The discussions lead to a change in strategy from the company to include a broader base of related services and a series of channel initiatives to expand their addressable market.
- African incumbent telco
Ovum worked with this African telecoms operator to define the range of services and features in the business broadband portfolio. In order to do this, we compared existing offerings from players in different parts of the world and balanced that with the local market environment to result in a new business broadband offering.
